Tips for the environmentally-friendly mountain climber:
- Erosion and other damages
The unstable flora in the mountains is not used to the stress which
is created by many people walking the area. Therefore, it can be easily
destroyed; the soil has no anchoring and slides away. Beaten paths in
the meadows damage the turf.
- Litter and waste water
Please do not leave your litter behind! Waste disposal is very
difficult in mountainous regions. We hope you will understand if the owner
of the refuge hut does not offer packed lunches. Everyone who is able to carry
a full rucksack onto a mountain is also able to carry the empties back to
the valley. An environmentally-conscious hiker, mountain walker or climber
does not leave his litter behind! (Most litter bins were removed on purpose.)
If you start a tour which takes several days, please take a sleeping bag with you.
This is a definite contribution for waste disposal on the mountains.
- Noise
Please do not walk all over forests and meadows. If you do, you will
destroy the habitation of many animals. Avoid unnecessary noise (e.g. radios).
- Danger of forest fires - smoking
Enjoy the fresh air of the forest and abstain from smoking. It is forbidden to start fires in a forest!
- No looting in natural areas.
No looting in natural areas. Don't pick protected plants and flowers,
and don't remove wood from its natural location - even, if it is not protected.
Mushrooms and berries are an important source of food for wild animals.
- Traffic - car - motor bikes
Please use your car as little as possible. Instead get the bus,
hiking bus (free of charge), cable railway or a bicycle.
- Mounting biking
Use your mountain bike only on wide meadow roads or forest roads. The hiker
has RIGHT OF WAY! Drive carefully downhill, avoid block-braking so that you don't leave any tracks.
- Tour planning
Plan your route carefully. Read any available route descriptions, hiking maps or tourist guides.
Please ask your host or mountain guide. Choose a route according to your own ability and physical
condition. Good equipment is also very important.
- En route
First of all, walk slowly and have regular breaks. Eat and drink regularly.
Tiredness and exhaustion increase the danger of accidents!
- Weather
If there is a possibility of thunderstorms, avoid climbing paths and ridges.
These are particularly dangerous areas for lightning to strike.
- Accidents
Do you know what to do if an accident occurs? Injured people must be tended to and
other participants calmed down. The Alpine distress signal =
6 x per minute audible or visible sign, given in regular intervals; a one minute pause
and then you start again. The rescuers reply 3 x per minute. People who get help should be given
the following information (if possible in written form): what happened, where did it happen, who raised
the alarm and who is injured, when did it happen, as well as further information about the weather conditions,
landing possibilities for a helicopter etc.
Mountain rescue telephone hotline: 118.
- Gathering of mushrooms
Please read the article about the ban on gathering mushrooms.
